ADOPT AN ORPHANAGE:
To adopt an orphanage, we mean looking after the orphanage for a year to start with. It can be done by a pediatrician or a non-doctor by employing a pediatrician.
1. Reassure the owner that you:
a) Would not interfere in their work and only give suggestions.
b) No charges for any professional service.
2. General Checkup: Immunization, Checkup of every child. Those children who need further Specialist consultation and investigation should be identified.
3. Two-three lectures for the caregivers on developmental screening as per the MCP card (Hindi and English) as given in our website. Also, there is lecture by Dr Shambhavi Seth to refer. This lecture can be done in the local language also as needed.
4. These MCP cards are used for children under 3 years of age. Further each child is assigned one MCP card to monitor the progress individually. Their development must be assessed according to this card. Each child is further divided into three zones.
a) Green: Normal development.
b) Pink: Mildly delayed which can be handled in the Orphanage/ Welfare centers.
c) Red: These children need specialized care in a developmental center and must be sent there.
5. You are expected to follow each child for at least one year or more, till they are adopted or move out of the institution.
- Involve the neighborhood public as mentioned elsewhere on the website.
- Finances for developmental care must be raised by donors.
- Request the doctors to see the child free or at reduced cost.
6. Visit the Orphanage initially every month for 3-4 months and then every 2 –3 months. We should have photograph evidence of each visit of yours.
