OUR FOUNDER
ABOUT US
Society for Development of Marginalised Children (SDMC) is involved with vulnerable children from Orphanages and Welfare homes. In the Orphanage, they are well-fed and their basic requirements are properly met. But their interaction with the CARETAKERS is limited and purely need-based. The absence of parents in their lives create an emotional trauma, and there is no way for them to vent their feelings. Love and empathy play a very critical role in this situation.
These children need to feel the love, care and sense of belonging. It is our quest to add the emotional element of feeling and being loved in the lives of these less fortunate children.
At present our Society is involved with
1.Developmental Screening and Intervention (0- 6 years): With the help of the Standardized tools, children were screened and evaluated in terms of their development in various Orphanages.
To address the developmental needs identified during the screening, SDMC appointed trained professionals such as Occupational Therapists, Special Educator, Speech Therapist, Psychologist in these orphanages.
- Training of orphanage caregivers in Early childhood Care and Education (0 – 6 Years) is being given by expert Abha Ranjan from USA via online zoom session
- For Adolescents: Interactive sessions with Caregivers on Emotional Issues, Substance Abuse, Bullying, Gender Sensitization have been held at various centres
4.Online Certificate Course for Neurodevelopmental Disorders was conducted in 2024 and 2025 at Sir Ganga Ram Hospitali by experts in developmental pediatrics. Our member Dr Praveen Suman conducted these courses.
5.Community Awareness Programme on Child Development was held for women at Sangam Vihar .

INVOLVING NEIGHBOURHOOD
Most people have sympathy for deprived and marginalized persons. More than sympathy we need Empathy and Compassion. It is important to involve the neighbourhood of the Orphanage in their activities. Send them a pamphlet with the newspaper vendor about your activities, SMS, WhatsApp messages, door to door visits and any mode of information in the social media. Request them to spare an hour a week with these children to interact and play with them. Once they get attached to these children, they would not only donate money but look after their education, health needs and much more. Don’t get disheartened as only few would continue to be with you. This is a slow process. Persist with it. Share your experiences with us.
